Released by Hostile Class Productions in 2010.

Thanks to Hostile Class Productions for sending it to me back in 2010.

The band is currently in the works of releasing a new record in the form of a 4-song 7'' and with Mongo back from service in Iraq and a new guitarplayer i hope to get some more frequent releases from this band.

I dubbed this the "Best album of 2010" in 2010's Year in review so me celebrating it might not come as a big surprise to those who have been following the site through the years. I love it the few people that have heard it here in Sweden love it and 6 years on since the band started it seems only Americans seem to have a problem with the band. They must since this damn band is one of the most slept on bands of today on their hometurf. The band tours Europe and South America but seem to get very little love from their N-A friends. Most of you yanks i have spoken to have had either of two issues with them (1) the band is to political or (2) the bands lyrics are to cliché. The last reason is quite laughable if you look at the lyrics about working class, drinking, tattooes and "Spirit of 69" being sung by the biggest headlining US acts today. If anything Brassic brings back the violent undertone's of 90's and 80's Oi! that got me into the music in the first place. Shit is just to damn comfortable and candycoated these days so thank good for this album bringing a bootparty and stirring shit up.

Right from the first track Infestation it's easy to understand some might have issues with the bands politics. Infestation tackles the failed integration that exists in many states today and since Brassic hails out of LA it's not hard to understand where they got the inspiration from. Lyrics like "It's a black and white complication/Mixed up culture, mixed up situation/There's not much more i can say or do/We gotta pull together, i'll leave that up to you" shines light on a subject few other bands dare speak of in fear of being branded racists when just highlighting the obvious.

Warriors and Pride are quite simulair in their message. Skinhead anthems like in the old days all done to some of the best R'n'R today. Gotta love the guitars on Warriors.

Hated & proud was one of the last songs to be recorded and shows Brassic doing a bit faster punk. Even though i like their slower R'n'R songs they pass the test and deliver an anti-social and bareboned fightsong.

Fight to win and Voice of Freedom are by far the best songs on the album. The first one reminding me about the sound Brutal Attack had on their first album and the last one delivering an apathetic view on modern democracy with lyrics like "People we elect don't represent shit/They don't care until the're living in it/What of our empire that we gave away?"

Only song i have an issue with on the album is the song Benders. Not because i cant respect other peoples politics or because i dont give a shit whoever anyone else wants to fuck or because one of my sisters is a lesbian. It's just a childish song and as much as i like the rest of the album i have a hard time enjoying this song. A bit to much even for me

This bands lyrics might be punch in the face to some folks but Oi! is not supposed to be nice or fit for radio. It sure as hell aint supposed to cater for one specific political mass and thats why i fucking love Brassic and their stiff middle finger to everything correct and clean within the scene. Hopefully they keep on doing their own thing in the future to and as much as some of you out there will continue to secretly despise them i will keep on supporting one of the few bands worthy of support.
10/10

Brassic doing a Brutal Attack cover

Yet another clip (much to do at work this week, i will do some proper uploads this weekend). This one is from december last year and is shot at a Brassic rehersal. They cover one of the bands that has influenced them the most and its a nice little treat as we wait for their first album to come out (takes forever).

Brassic performing Time for change (live 2010)

Brassic playing one of their new songs in Brazil (cant wait for their first release). You can clearly hear the influences from Skrewdrivers Boots n Braces era on the intro.

Brassic playing Disorderly conduct (live)

A live performance by Brassic from their tour down to southern America. This one is from Brazil and the song is a cover of the old Arresting officers track. Fun thing that a band that has a hard time getting gigs at home cause they are "to proud" doesnt seem to have a problem getting gigs in southern/central America. Maybe a small indication that the US scene is going to the same PC-shithole as a lot of other countrys has lately. Big up to all skins in Brazil and shame shame to the west-coast (pointing finger in disapproval).

There has been some talk of lately that there will be a small dedication album to Arresting officers with some of todays top bands doing covers of their songs. Lets hope for it to happen and lets hope it turns out better then previous attempts.

Interview with Brassic.

After turning many heads worldwide with their demo from 2007 and a leaked second demo early this year i decided to make an interview with Brassics bassist and vocalist Mongo.

Bernando: Whats the current line-up of the band?

Mongo: Well the band consists of myself (Mongo) on vocals and bass. Clyde on guitar and Skinner on drums. We went through a few guitarists at first, but have been set with Clyde since summer of 08. We originally had a British singer who was living in the US, but due to immigration issues he had to move back.

Bernando: Discography?

Mongo: Right now we have our unofficial release of our demo from 07 floating around. Oi! aint red was supposed to "officially" release it, but that never happened haha. Our upcoming debut full length is 2/3s finished. It will be called "Voice of freedom", and will be released on American defence records. Oi! aint red is supposed to be the European distribution though.

Bernando: Could you tell us a bit of the bands history?

Mongo: Well none of us played in any other serious bands. I've played with some friends here and there, but nothing serious haha. We formed in 07, but we really didn't get serious untill 08 around the time when Clyde joined. We've shared the stage with a lot of other great acts including Bonecrusher, Oxblood, Red alert, Tri city trashed, Social task and Riot gun. The skinhead scene in California isn't so friendly, so we grew quite the reputation for being politically incorrect, to say the least haha.

Bernando: Describe the groups sound and the groups that has had an influence.

Mongo: Well i like to say we have a more classic and aggressive Oi! sound. I don't feel like America has had that many great skinhead bands, so we're ready to make our mark! I'd say our biggest influences come from early Skrewdriver, Condemned 84, Combat 84, Brutal attack, Arresting officers, Perkele and Violent storm.

Bernando: You have an upcomming album on Oi! aint red records. Can you tell us about it?

Mongo: The album should be released American defence records as well as on Oi! aint red. You should be very surprised with the sound of it. We're still writing the last few tracks for it. But the sound ranges from the most catchy oi! riffs to the most aggressive side of the genre. Some of the lyrics are in your face, with riffs to match. Others are left for your own interpetation. I'd like to say we're definetely puching the envelope with this one though.

Bernando: I understand Chris from Lonesoldier is featured on a track on the upcomming album. Will we see more guests?

Mongo: That's right. Cris from Lonesoldier and i are good friends. He comes to all our gigs and even comes on stage and songs our cover of Fuck LA from time to time. It is possible we may have a few more guests help out with backing vocals, such as Scott drummer of Youngland, Youngblood, Aggressive force and other such bands.

Bernando: I heard a rumour of a split ep with Code 1. Is this official?

Mongo: At this time nothing is stone about the split. We're both very exited to put it out, but Code 1 is inbetween drummers at the moment. It'd be nice to get some American British friendly competition going.

Bernando: Whats it like to lace up the boots and stepping out in your neighbourhood today?

Mongo: Haha, not too many skinheads dress traditionaly in our area, no matter what side of the fence they're on. It seems like nowadays all these younger "skinheads" just dress up at their houses to take pictures for myspace hahaha!

Bernando: Whats the scene like in California? Any other bands we should keep our eyes on?

Mongo: The Oi! Scene in california is almost non existent. VERY few oi! bands come from here. But there are a few good ones such as Bonecrusher, Riot Gun, and always good old punk bands like Social Task.

Bernando: With a new president and all what should be the top priority on his list?

Mongo: Well i think domestic issues should be top priority. Issues such as our failing economy and the contributers to this like illegal immigration and exporting working class jobs. America should stop acting as world police, and we should take our nose out of foreign affairs a lot more.

Bernando: What do you know about Sweden?

Mongo: I have a few Swedish friends, like Rob and Cheddar from Contemptuous/Anti Pati. I like a good few Swedish bands, like Contemptuous, Perkele, The Cliches, Steelcapped Strength, The Righteous, even some Agent Bulldog haha. As for the history of the scene, i remember Rob telling me before that Mongo was an infamous skinhead from Sweden way back when haha. I'd like to find more out about him!
And Sweden has always been a neutral country in almost every matter! hahaha

Bernando: Any final words?

Cheers for the interview and for having our demo up for download! Check our website www.myspace.com/brassicoi for other updates. Our full length "Voice of Freedom" should be out in early spring of 2010. We have plenty of merch for sale haha. We're heading south of the equator to play a gig somewhere in south america next year! And hopefully soon after we'll finally make our way to Europe.

Brassic - Demo II (2009)

Tracklist:
01. Warriors
02. Voice of freedom
03. The evil has landed (Arresting officers cover)
04. Fuck L.A. (Lonesoldier cover)

!!Note that this is not an officialy released demo but tracks that was supposed to be on their 2010 release but leaked out on the internet by mistake.!!

They have toned down the lyrics a bit on this one and one of their greatest influences Perkele from Sweden really shines through on the track Voice of freedom.
More rock n' roll and less aggro.
Also do a cover of the legendary Arresting officers (which actually is the weakest track on the demo).
They are currently working on a record that will be released through Oi! aint red Records and touring the US with british band Condemned 84.
Future plans include a split 7'' with british band Code 1 and touring the South America.
Be on the lookout for these guys cause cause they are going to be big (well big as in a big name in this obscure underground curcuit that is).

Brassic - Demo (2007)

Tracklist:
01. Infestation
02. Warriors
03. Pride
04. Benders

Band from California created by military man and surfer Mongo with a dark and not so politically correct history. One of the members used to play in a band called Armed and ready though today he has denied any rumours of being racist and simply i do not care what he thinks as long as Brassic stays what it is, a good oi!band.
The bandname Brassic (slang for being broke in UK) was created by one of their original bandmembers that got deported back to UK before these recordings where made.
Mostly they formed the band cause most of the US Oi! bands didnt sound like original Oi! anymore (true) and they where sick and tired of all other bands being so politicaly correct (true).

How about the music you ask yourself. Fucking great!
Been a long time since i heard anything as great as this. Very un-american sound and the singing is just to damn good to miss out on. I mean even a crusty pc-punk must admit that these guys sound awesome.
The lyrics on two of the songs are a bit to "on the brink" even for me but dont get me wrong there is nothing racist or "evil" about them just as i said to much "on the brink".
