Interview and liveperformance with The loose skrews

Interview is taken from the Spring broke DVD and features the band having deep discussions about drinking beer and listening to Rod Steward.

The band performs 2 livesongs in front of an empty pit. Obviously people in America are scarred of the stage.

They where now a 5-piece band and decided to re-record some of their old songs for this record. Dont really like that sort of stuff but since their new songs are good i will let it slide.

Both Can i see you tomorrow and the anthemy The best times are solid additions to their "classic" songs but best of them all is No more Rancid. A track where the band mocks and at some parts immitates Lars and his gucci-punk friends "Get them with the boot with all you got".
8/10
The album is sold out from all known distros.

Released by Hairball8 Records in 2005.

Ok first thing first. What's up with the kiddie porn cover? Get some fullgrown and voluptious women to pose for your covers damn it.

My favourite LS release to date. A lot of these songs where featured on their third album and even if those where re-recorded to have better quality i prefer this sound better actually.
Both a bit harder and faster on this on compared to their earlier release.
Lyricaly it's not a really advanced album (and neither is any of their releases). Its 70% beerdrinking and "positive alcoholism", 15% heartbreak and being walked out on (because you drink to much) 10% underdog lyrics about being treated like shit (cause you drink to much), 5% hate and violence (because you are drunk). This isnt really a problem since it's all done in a fun way and it wouldnt really be a drunkrock band otherwise.
All tracks on the record where new for 2005 (except for the last track that was on a 4-way split with Dead kings and two other bands in 2004) and i like how they are able to deliver 17 tracks of this quality in less than a year.
Their "trademark song" Born to lose did its firsttime appearance here and so did my favourite song Fuck with me not.
The song that stands out the most is probably Drink up you bastards. If Shane MacGowan would have been from Atlanta and grown up on American folkmusic this is probably how it would have sounded.

The record can still be bought at Interpunk for cakemoney so dont be cheap. Support if you like it.

07. Nothing matters
08. Heard it in a love song
09. Music and misery
10. Here tonight
11. What good is love?
12. Only gona die
13. Life must suck being you
14. 7 year itch
15. Living on a prayer (Jon Bon Jovi cover)
16. Til the day i die
17. Heartless

Selfreleased by the band in 2004.

Not the best effort by the band and probably my least favourite record but still some good tunes on the CD.
First one worth mentioning is the band-anthem We are the loose skrews. One of the few songs on the record that feels like a pure Oi! song.
On the song What good is love the band takes it down a notch and sings some sort of wierd broken heart ballad and as misplaced as Rotger sounds on this song it is actually quite fantastic in all its wierdness.
7 year itch is one of the heavier tracks on the record and also one of the best.
The best song on the whole record though is the Jon bon jovi cover. As much as i dispice that band i have always like that single track and the skrews take on it is nothing but fantastic. Just knock down a couple of brews and see for yourself if you can keep yourself from singing along in the chorus.

The loose skrews (introduction)

An unknown but even so a legendary band from Atlanta. One of those bands who didnt try to act a part but instead stod on the outside looking in and in that way made up their own rules and even if they gladly borrowed from other bands somewhat even created their own sound.
It would be ignorant to try and classify this band into a punkrock/oi!/hardcore/rocknroll folder since they dont really fit any of those. Best way to describe them is a crossbreed between Motörhead, Antiseen, 4skins, GG Allin and Black flag with a little pinch of Dire straits sprinkled on top of it all.

I found out about this band quite late (in 2006 to be exact) but i have gladly emptied my pockets to collect everything they have done no matter how cheap and ugly the CD's i got delivered home was. I know a lot of people out there have missed this band and i think its a shame cause this is in my oppinion one of those few bands that represents what punkrock is to me.
Starting out as a 3-piece band in 2003 with the highly charismatic and from what i have heard somewhat smelly Rotger on vocals and guitar, Jon B on bass and Slim on drums. They released their first demo and in 2004 they thought fuck it and selfreleased their first CD called More than a few.
The fact that the band is a pubrock band that was made to perform live and the fact that Rotger combines these liveshows with a heavy consumption of Pabts blue ribbon beer they understood that a solid guitarplayer was needed to let Rotger do whatever it is he does when he sings. They added Brady to play guitar and released their second CD in 2005 called Have another brew.
After this release the band had a bit of a slow period but in 2008 they released Born to loose that according to the band is their attempt to take the whole "music thing" serious. On this record they have re-recorded some of their old songs and also added a couple of new ones and also rearranged a lot in their lineup. We now had Rotger still on vocals, Jon B still on bass, Brady now playing rhytmic guitar and Clay playing lead guitar. Bill had now replaced Slim on drums.
For their latest album For those heart true Hooper replaced Brady on rythm guitar and Gabe replaced Bill on drums.
Last year they released an Ep through Dim records and called it quits a short time after that. They are supposed to release a last record later this year through OTF Records with much of their material that never saw the light. Lets just hope that this isnt another one of those records that never gets released. I need my fix!!

Reason to fight - Blood & glory CD (2009)

Tracklist:
01. Abused and oppressed
02. Side by side
03. Battle brigade
04. Revolt
05. Eyes of innocence
06. Riot
07. Embrace
08. Haymaker
09. Blood & glory
10. Five men fighting
11. A common thread
12. Can't get along with anyone
13. Potter's field
14. Up in arms

Released by Lude boy Records in 2009.

Yet again a review that is far from fair since my appetite for hardcore music designed for the skinhead audience is close to nonexistent. I am not a big fan of hardcore in the first place even though i like a lot of Swedish bands like Refused and Raised fist and offcourse the legendary US bands like Warzone, Iron cross and Slapshot (even if i have come to grow out of those bands in my older days, i hardly never put on a NYHC song these days).
Even if the startingfield for this review isnt that good i actually quite liked some parts of it. The song Battle brigade is actually really good (mostly cause it reminds me of how Slapshot USED to sound like). But for a band that has been around since 2001 one would think that they would have some more sure shots layin around the studion.

My guess is the common man will probably like this band more than a lot of the bands that i have given 10scores to but for me this is kid-music. Maybe Emo kids over-running your scene is a good indication to move on to greater things..... just me thinking out loud.

This band also released a split EP last year but since i dont want to ruin the sales for any band weither i like them or not i wont upload that album until 2012 or 2013.
